New stuff since 1.12
- blue ice, coral, conduits, kelp, sea pickles, stripped logs, wood, and turtle eggs
- new items such as buried treasure exploration maps, debug sticks, buckets of fish, hearts of the sea, phantom membranes, tridents
- water is more transparent than before and the color was changed to match specific biomes, and before 1.13 water was only dark blue
- dolphins, drowned, fish mobs, phantoms, and turtles were added, as well as new biomes
- focuses mainly on villages, adding a new subset of villagers known as pillagers, and redesigns village architecture to match the biome it is located in
- introduces many new blocks and mobs, revamps the crafting system by moving some functionalities to different blocks, updates the taiga biome with foxes and sweet berries, and adds a new bamboo jungle biome along with bamboo and pandas
- first major release to include the new textures
- added bees and bee-related items, such as beehives, honey bottles and honeycombs
- overhauls the Nether by adding four new biomes, four new mobs (the piglin, hoglin, zoglin, and strider)
- adds a multitude of new blocks, including many variants of blackstone as well as the respawn anchor used to set the player's spawn point in the Nether
- adds a new netherite tier of equipment, obtained through ancient debris found rarely throughout the Nether

3 Mushrooms (brown or red) + 3 Dirt = Mycelium
8 Sand + 1 Poppy = 4 Red Sand
3 Saplings (acacia, birch, jungle, (dark) oak, or spruce) + 3 Dirt = 3 Grass
4 Mycelium + 4 Grass + 1 Bonemeal = Podzol
Smelt 1 Stone brick = Cracked Stone Brick
Smelt 1 intact Gold Sword = 3 Gold Nuggets

- added bright night rendering (night with light sources), automatically shown during night time
